 "Matt
Braun has a
genius for taking real characters out of the
Old West and
giving them flesh
and immediacy."

DAKOTA
Braun frequently bases his novels on real life events and historical
figures. In Dakota he again weaves a historical figure into his story as
the protagonist. This time it is Teddy Roosevelt. After the death of his
mother and his wife on the same day, Teddy leaves his infant daughter
with his sister and goes west to Dakota, a land of fierce beauty, good
hunting, and a few men in search of power and not too choosy about how
they get it. Teddy steps into the middle of trouble as he establishes a
ranching empire, but this is his chance to prove to himself, that he can
change things for the better, a philosophy that he implements years
later as President.
Once more Braun succeeds in bringing to vivid life a historical figure,
and telling a darn good story at the same time.
ROUNDUP MAGAZINE

DAKOTA
This “historical fiction” novel gives those not well versed in Teddy
Roosevelt’s exploits during his “cowboy” years in the Dakotas a
page-turner that gives the reader cause to yell, “BULLY!”
