Old West Q & A

Q: Was Butch Cassidy really killed in Bolivia?

A: By the early 1900's the Wild Bunch was subjected to relentless pursuit by the law.  In 1902, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid ( Harry Longabaugh) fled the USA and sailed to South America.

There, in 1908, the bandits were trapped by a troop of Bolivian soldiers.  The Sundance Kid was killed, but historians believe that Cassidy escaped and returned to the USA.  He adapted the alias William Phillips, establishing a company in Spokane, Washington, and manufactured business equipment.  The boldest robber of the Old West turned out to be an engineering wizard.  He dies in 1937 at the age of seventy-one.
